To Address the Impending HIV crisis among Men who have Sex with Men in Hong Kong
The number of HIV infections among Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) in Hong Kong continues to rise. Different local agencies providing HIV antibody testing to the MSM community has also been encountering a dramatic rise in the number of MSM tested positive. There is much evidence to show that such crisis is unlikely to be abated any time soon. The Department of Health has met earlier with AIDS Concern and Hong Kong AIDS Foundation to discuss the appropriate response and measures to control further spread of HIV among the local MSM community.
As concerned community members and leaders, we urgently need your help in putting a halt to the persistent surge in HIV infections. We cordially invite you to join us on the next meeting scheduled on November 15, 2005 at 7:00pm on 2nd Floor, Wang Tau Hom Jockey Club Clinic, 200 Junction Road East, Kowloon ( near Lok Fu MTR Station ) to discuss the steps we can take to fight the epidemic.
At this forum, the Department of Health will report on the latest infection trends among the MSM population. We will also address the following issues and come up with concrete plans of action:
O How can we raise the MSM community??s awareness and sense of urgency to the HIV epidemic?
O How can we increase the community??s access and usage of condoms and lubricant?
O How can we provide adequate support for MSM who tested HIV positive?
O And given the low rate of HIV testing, how can we more accurately access the degree of HIV prevalence among the MSM community?
Your participation and input will be extremely valuable in directing HIV prevention efforts where it is most needed and our community will benefit greatly from it. There is no time to lose. The time to take action is NOW!
